7/22 - Convoy to Gaza & Socialist Worker Discussion

Wed 7/22 7-8:30pm
University of Washington School of Social Work

Join us for a 2 part meeting focusing on Socialist Worker Newspaper

1. Convoy to Gaza Journal Discussion (40 mins)
On July 4, a delegation of solidarity activists, including ISO members and SocialistWorker.org writers, set out from the U.S. to deliver desperately needed humanitarian supplies to the Palestinians of Gaza. The convoy was organized by the group Viva Palestina, led by British Member of Parliament and antiwar activist George Galloway, who was part of a similar effort from London earlier this year. The delegation's progress was initially hampered by Egyptian authorities, who made a series of bureaucratic demands and stopped several buses filled with Viva Palestina members from crossing into the Sinai on the way toward the Rafah border crossing. Finally, the delegation was allowed to enter Gaza on July 15 with truckloads of desperately needed humanitarian supplies--but under the condition that the convoy leave again within 24 hours.

The Convoy to Gaza Journal, which is published on socialistworker.org, follows the travails in Egypt and the situation on the ground in Gaza (with a more reports from Gaza expected to be published in the coming days) So check out the journal here, and join us for a political discussion about the convoy and the political situation in Gaza.

2. Socialist Worker Discussion (50 Mins)
In the second part of the meeting we will discuss our Branches use of Socialist Worker Newspaper (both the daily updated website and the bi-weekly print edition). We will go over why we publish a newspaper and how we use it, as well as brainstorm and discuss ideas for tabling events where we sell Socialist Worker on campuses and in the community.
